Algebra II honorsWelcome to a new semester! I look forward to working with each of you as we investigate the world of algebra – a world in which some “letters” are really numbers and imaginary numbers really do exist. Building on your work with linear, quadratic, and exponential functions, your repertoire of functions will extend to include polynomial, rational, radical, and logarithmic functions. You will also work closely with the expressions that define these functions and will continue to expand your abilities to model situations and to solve equations. As we make these discoveries, you will need a focused and inquisitive mind, a diligent work ethic, and a positive attitude. Remember that I am here to assist you during this course. If you have questions or need extra help beyond what is provided during the regular class time, please meet with me during morning break (each day except Wednesday) or schedule an appointment for after school (Tuesday – Thursday) so that your concerns can be addressed. Course Outline and Timeline: Preliminary Unit 5 days Chapter 1 Functions 8 days Systems of Equations and Inequalities 5 days Chapter 2 Quadratics 17 days Chapter 3 Polynomials 16 days Chapter 4 Exponentials/ Logarithms 10 days Chapter 5 Rationals and Radicals 14 days Chapter 6 Properties of Functions 6 days Chapter 8 Data Analysis and Statistics 1 day Chapter 9 Sequences and Series 2 days Chapter 10 Trigonometry |

Welcome to a new semester! I look forward to working with each of you as we investigate the standards for this course. The purpose of this course is to strengthen your basic math skills and to serve as a foundation for your algebraic reasoning skills. A primary focus in the course will be on solving, graphing, and applying linear relationships. Other areas of focus will involve functions, exponents, quadratics, and data analysis. All future math courses will build upon the concepts learned in Foundations of Algebra. Remember that I am here to assist you during this course. If you have questions or need extra help beyond what is provided during the regular class time, please meet with me during morning break (each day except Wednesday) or schedule a time for after school (Tuesday – Thursday) so that your concerns can be addressed. Course Outline and Timeline: Chapter 1 Foundations for Algebra 7 days Chapter 2 Solving Linear Equations 8 days Proportions and Variation 4 days Chapter 3 Solving Inequalities 7 days Chapter 4 An Introduction to Functions 4 days Chapter 5 Graphing and Writing Linear Functions 17 days Chapter 6 Systems of Equations 5 days Chapter 7 Exponents 7 days Chapter 7 Exponential Growth and Decay 4 days Chapter 8 Polynomials and Factoring 10 days Chapter 9 Quadratic Functions and Equations 4 days Chapter 10 Radical Expressions and Equations 2 days |
